ABSTRACT

It is strongly required to maintain a lot of infrastructure build in the period of high economic growth in Japan. On steel highway bridge, the corrosion damage of steel and fatigue damage of RC deck are the major reasons of reconstructions of its superstructure. In order to prevent the corrosion damage of the steel reinforcement, it is thought that introduction of a substitute material without corrosion is necessary, then we picked up the aramid fiber reinforced plastics (AFRP). However, the small bonding strength between AFRP and concrete is a very serious problem. In this paper, the authors carried out the punching shear tests with the specimens with steel reinforcement and three types of AFRP rods to confirm the possibility of improving punching shear strength. And, we also carried out the 3D finite element analysis to investigate the influence of surface treatments or section layout of the deck.
