ABSTRACT

In this paper, the driving torque when driving thread forming screws in structural steel plates is measured from the start of driving until failure of the joint, and the target driving torque is investigated. An example of setting the target driving torque TT based on the penetration torque TP when the thread at the tip of a screw being driven into a steel plate penetrates through the plate and the failure torque TF when the joint fails, is presented. Although the number of cases studied here is limited, penetration torque TP and failure torque TF are obtained by using two types of steel plates (t = 4.5 mm, t = 6.0 mm) and two types of screw diameters (φ = 8 mm, φ = 12 mm), and the target driving torque values are calculated.
