ABSTRACT

Chaijiaxia Yellow River Bridge is a curved cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 364m, one of the largest in the world. The south side spans and part of the main span are located on a 181m long arc with a radius of 600 meters and one connecting transition curve. Two uneven pylons are adopted to accommodate the curve plan for mechanic performance. In this paper, an overall introduction to the structure and maintenance design of the bridge is presented. Firstly, the basic structure design with regard to the dimensions and arrangement of the bridge and components is introduced. Secondly, a most important part of the static analysis of cable-stayed bridges which is the cable force calculation is elaborated. Thirdly, seismic design of the bridge is presented with the calculation results and dampers arrangement. Then the maintenance design is presented for the purpose of service performance improvement. Finally, summaries of both the designs are made.
