ABSTRACT

Ultra high strength fiber reinforced concrete (UFC) is a material offering high tensile strength and extended durability resulting from a compressive strength in the 200 N/mm2 range and the use of short fibers for reinforcement. It has found practical use in many fields, including railway applications. However, there are few reports of durability verifications on structures in actual service, so an important task is to verify the long-term durability of in-service UFC structural members with a view to improving reliability. In this report, track beams of the Tokyo Monorail are surveyed to verify their durability state after 10 years in service. These beams were the first use of UFC for railway structures in Japan and our work demonstrates their long-term durability.
