ABSTRACT

For 20 years, application technologies of the Ultra-high strength Fiber reinforced Concrete (hereafter, UFC), which has compression strength 200N/mm2, have been being rapidly developed, and the number of UFC structures is increasing in Japan. Especially, the application of UFC to bridges is advanced from the advantage of its ultra high strength, high durability, thin member, and weight reduction. In the UFC PC bridge, a very thin member's thickness such as 15cm and the long single-span girder of more than 50m become possible, though they were never achieved with conventional concrete. Until today, more than 14 UFC pedestrian bridges, 4 UFC road bridges, and 3 railway bridges have been completed in Japan. Appling UFC to bridges has started at Sakata Mirai Bridge in 2002. Since It has been more than 15 years, then periodic investigations had conducted to examine the material stability and long-term durability of the UFC bridge. It is confirmed by the inspection that the UFC bridge remained highly durable after 15 years’ service. In this report, the cases about the UFC applications where various unique technologies are applied are introduced, and those features are described. The periodic durability investigation to Sakata Mirai Bridge is also introduced.
