ABSTRACT

Precast decks are generally used in the replacement of damaged road bridge decks to shorten the construction period and improve quality. Connecting decks reduce labor cost and improve durability. Thus, in this work, a precast deck connection structure was developed using rebar lap joints and ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) acting as the filling material for the joints. The UHPC used in this deck connection exhibits a compressive strength of 180 MPa for ambient temperature curing. To validate the mechanical performance of the deck connection, static and cyclic uniaxial tensile tests of the joint, bending test of the deck connection, and wheel load running test of the deck connection were performed. The results confirmed that the connection will remain intact if the lap joint length is secured at five times the rebar diameter and that the connection is comparable to the precast part.
