ABSTRACT
This study focuses on road bridges in Japan and clarifies the current state of road bridges from the viewpoint of sustainability. The state of road bridges projected for 2050 is also analyzed. From the results, it can be concluded that the sustainability of road bridges is closely related to the problem of population, the soundness of existing bridges, GDP, the cost of constructing, maintaining and replacing the bridges, and global warming resulting from CO2 emissions.
