ABSTRACT

Indonesia is an archipelagic country with more than 17,600 islands in which the land transportation system has driven the national economy. Regarding this condition, bridges play an essential role in maintaining reliable connectivity in strategic development areas, and opening isolation of undeveloped regions. The different character of bridges, as mentioned above, requires the adjustment in the management of bridge assets characteristics. As a form of management support, a bridge management system has been developed and implemented since 1992 in Indonesia. However, the development of the bridge management system has not run optimally. Some examples that exist include the use of DOS-based software that is not up-to-date, and has several disadvantages. This paper describes the initiative for the sustainable development of the bridge management system, which is mostly focused on information systems. So that the data delivered can provide a complete picture for decision-makers in determining bridge maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement.
