ABSTRACT

This study aims to develop a road condition assessment system for not only road pavement serviceability but also the road structures such as a guardrail (barrier), appurtenances, etc. The proposed system can maintain the pavement surface based on an objective numerical evaluation by correlate with a motion sensor data, video data, sound data, subtitle data, sensor data and GPS data. The system is proposed to evaluate the performance of the road pavement surface and also to check the results of an evaluation using video recordings by combination. In the system, at first, it needs to arrange the measuring equipment in a car, then the car was running at the speed of 50~60 km/h for evaluating the target road route. In the running car, data acquisition from the high-vision video, motion sensor and running wheel sound were recorded into a PC. In this paper, it is also describes the results of practical application of the system to road networks in both of Japan and Timor-Leste which is one of the least developed countries in the region for confirming the effectiveness of the system from budget constraints point of view.
