ABSTRACT

The reinforced concrete piers of old road viaducts have few shear reinforcement bars according to recent seismic standards. There is a need to improve their shear capacity and ductility through retrofitting. In response, it is proposed a new retrofit methodology which combines insertion plate-anchored reinforcing bars with the installation of carbon fiber composite panels. In this study, cyclic loading tests are carried out to verify the shear strengthening and ductility improving effect of this methodology.
