ABSTRACT

This paper aims to verify the main causes and mechanisms of collapse of bridges due to landslides, mainly of rocks and soils. First, the ways in which the landslides are presented, including in the form of fluid and flow, on flexible and rigid barrier structures are reviewed. Then, the modes of collapse of some studied bridges are reviewed and discussed. Finally, a methodology is proposed to study the impact of landslides and soil on the superstructure of a bridge. This work is expected to provide information to understand the impact phenomenon of debris on bridges, identifying future research to find better bridge design solutions and protect bridges near hillside.
