ABSTRACT

Currently, Chile has about 6,000 bridges in the national network considering short to medium span bridges with different structural damage and condition due to the lack of a maintenance program and the aging of structures. During 2019, the Ministry of Public Works proposed a new way to improve inspection and determination of damage index for bridges following AASHTO codes and European Standards. A “Monitoring Challenge” invites private entities, Universities and Procurement companies to develop a monitoring system for two bridges as a case study, namely, Seminario Bridge (continuous system with steel girder and concrete slab) in the Region of Valparaíso and Toltén Bridge (concrete arch bridge) in the Region of Araucanía. This paper presents the results obtained from the management program implemented by the Owner in order to, with a reduced and limited budget, get an optimization data of the damage and structural safety condition using monitoring system.
