ABSTRACT

Much information is available about humoral aspect of the immune response in psoriasis. Extensive investigations have been conducted on various cellular aspects of the immune response in patients with psoriasis. W. Glinski et al. have reported a close relationship between the active phase of the disease and the numbers of circulating T-cells. Many discrepancies appear in the literature concerning mitogen stimulation of psoriatic lymphocytes. The proportions of T-cells assessed by three membrane markers were decreased in psoriasis, whereas B-cell numbers were normal. The levels of Facteur thymique serique were higher in psoriatic sera than in control sera from subjects of the same age. Like other immunopathological diseases, cutaneous psoriasis cannot be simply related to a single pathogenic factor, such as a T-cell defect or a suppressor cell impairment. Immunological abnormalities are now well documented and certainly play a major role in the disease.
