ABSTRACT

The objective of the current research is to shed some light on local development issues and to examine how innovative networks of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) (family and non-family ones) located in some territorial spaces contribute to regional and economic development. More especially, technopoles, competitive clusters (mostly constituted by non-family SMEs), and/or local production systems (basically made up of family artisanal SMEs), are fertile grounds giving rise to innovative networks of actors and enterprises. These SME networks are usually struggling for the benefit of the economic development of their territories, taking into consideration that their regional specificities would not prohibit them to broaden their scope internationally in this global arena.
