ABSTRACT

Total laparoscopic hysterectomy in large fibroid uteri has long been considered a challenge for the surgeon because of increased operating time, increased blood loss, and risk of injury to surrounding structures. With time, surgical techniques have progressed and laparoscopic instruments have improved, both of which have led to hysterectomies for large uteri being performed by laparoscopy safely and effectively. In this chapter, we discuss various methods making total laparoscopic hysterectomy much simpler and easier with fewer complications in a large uterus. We will also discuss the methods to reduce blood loss during hysterectomy and specimen retrieval in large uteri.
