ABSTRACT

Fibroid uterus is the most common benign uterine tumor that can be managed medically, surgically, or through non-extirpative procedures, depending on the clinical situation. Myomectomy may be beneficial, especially to those desiring to preserve the uterus or fertility or both, outcomes are comparable to those of hysterectomy, and the minimally invasive approach is favored when feasible. Hysterectomy is one of the most common gynecological surgeries performed, and the various modalities for the same are abdominal (open/minimally invasive), vaginal, and non-descent vaginal hysterectomy. Comparison of robotic-assisted laparoscopic approach shows that the robotic approach may be favored for cases with higher complexity and multiple fibroids in myomectomy. This chapter discusses in detail the various advantages and disadvantages of robotic hysterectomy compared with other surgical approaches. We attempted to shed some light on this much-researched topic and hope this chapter will aid in concluding a valuable approach in the management of fibroid uterus.
