ABSTRACT
The chapter highlights the principles, fundamentals, applications, merits, demerits, formulae, and procedures of Ayurveda and traditional knowledge. The content exclusively focuses on modern pharmacognostic approaches and linking with the traditional knowledge. The chapter signifies the current status, prevalence, general aspects, understanding the concept from Ayurvedic point of view, and demography of diabetes mellitus (DM). In addition to it, the role of modern herbal therapy, Ayurvedic crude drugs, Indian medicinal plant with antihyperglycemic attributes, marketed antidiabetic formulations, etc. are comprehensively emphasized. The chapter will provide information of the antidiabetic plant extracts and products utilizing both modern approach and inspiration from the traditional Ayurvedic principles.
