ABSTRACT

The heart of the product development process is the verification and validation phase. During this time, testing indicates how well the product has been designed. The parts count reliability prediction had indicated whether the design would meet the reliability goal. Typical use testing consists of operation of a device as it will be operated in its typical environment. Standard tests are conducted at room temperature, with no acceleration of any parameters. Cycle testing is usually conducted on individual components, such as switches, phone jacks or cable. Environmental testing is conducted on a device to assure its ability to withstand the environmental stresses associated with its shipping and operational life. The operating temperature test assures the device will operate according to specification at the extremes of the typical operating temperature range. The humidity test assures the device will withstand the stresses of exposure to a humid environment.
