ABSTRACT

Terrorist attacks have become serious threats across the world and have their own characteristics. It is helpful to reveal their basic patterns and characteristics by thorough research on terrorist attacks based on historical accident cases. The research will be conducted using data from the Global Terrorism Database. The multivariate statistical analysis is introduced to explore the main features of terrorist attacks in different countries. The influencing factors of terrorist attacks include weapon type, target, attack types and attack time. This work will highlight the associations between the countries and these factors, and present the distinguishing features of terrorism in each country. The spatial-temporal distribution characteristics of different types of terrorist attack will also be analyzed. This research can be useful to prevent terrorist attacks and reduce the casualties and property damage caused.
