ABSTRACT
Preimmunization of a graft recipient with blood from the donor should theoretically presensitize a recipient and lead to more rapid graft rejection. The converse occurs, and we do not know why. This intriguing paradox, known as the “transfusion effect”, is reviewed here by Reg Gorzynski and Maria Robillard.
