ABSTRACT

To collate long-term subjective and objective data on patients treated for end-stage temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease with custom produced alloplastic joint replacements. In particular, the study provided information on jaw pain, diet ability, jaw function, quality of life (QoL), and mouth opening before and after surgery. To collate long-term subjective and objective data on patients treated for end-stage TMJ disease with custom produced alloplastic joint replacements. In particular, the study provided information on jaw pain, diet ability, jaw function, QoL, and mouth opening before and after surgery. Patents were only included if they exhibited end-stage TMJ disease, surgery was performed by one of the agreed surgeons, they were contactable and could be evaluated and agreed to participate. The only exclusion criterion was loss to follow-up. While the aims and indications for TMJ reconstruction are well established, there remains a multitude of techniques available.
