ABSTRACT

Fouling is a major practical challenge of pressure-retarded osmosis (PRO), especially when considering the system using wastewater as feeds. The membrane performance in osmotic power generation can be significantly limited by fouling. Antifouling membranes have shown promising effectiveness in tackling this problem. This chapter summarizes recent developments and synthesis strategies of antifouling membranes for PRO and potential candidates of antifouling PRO membranes.
