ABSTRACT

Wind energy is a more suitable alternative energy source than most of the others. Wind turbines are one of the cleanest energy sources. Wind turbine systems have been developed to produce power with constant angular velocity and force. It provides the production of wind energy with the aerodynamic force developing on the blades of wind turbines. Harsh environmental conditions can cause failures in different parts of wind turbines, such as main bearings, gearboxes, and generators. Applications of multi-level design configuration for the wind turbine system are also available in the literature. Optimization methods are commonly used in the design process of wind turbine blades and other system components. The chapter aims to determine the optimum design of a wind turbine structure by using mathematical models. Stochastic methods such as Differential Evolution, Random Search and Simulated Annealing and Nelder-Mead algorithms are used.
