ABSTRACT

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSG) are synchronous machines which are comprised of magnets instead of windings on the rotor. Stator and rotor are the main components of the PMSG. The stator is the stationary part of the generator which consists of thin pressed laminated sheets and windings. There are many variables in PMSG designs that affect efficiency and mass. ANSYS Maxwell is a leading program for the design and analysis of electric motors and generators, actuators, sensors, converters, and other electromagnetic and electromechanical instruments. The ANSYS Maxwell program consists of three main parts. These are RMxprt, Maxwell two-dimensional, and Maxwell three-dimensional. It aims to develop separate models for efficiency, cogging torque, output power, load line voltage, and stator slot fill factor and weight parameters as a function of generator design variables. The advancement in permanent magnet technology provides higher energy outputs from different renewable energy sources such as wind and river power plants.
