ABSTRACT

Considering that oyster shells are mostly made of calcium carbonate, their reintroduction in the industry becomes easier, thus it can be used in several sectors such as building materials, food supplement, pharmaceutical industry, animal feed, ground correction among others. Besides that, in marine culture, especially oysterculture, in 2014, approximately 438 billion tons of these were produced and most of these shells were improperly discarded. This article proposes a method for oyster shells reusing, excluding the organic material from them and making them raw materials for the industry. The FTIR results from oyster shells calcium carbonate are the same as the ones found in literature. Other analyses, such as XRD and DTA corroborated this result.
