ABSTRACT

School-Based Management is a management concept that offers autonomy to schools to make decisions in an effort to involve all school components effectively and efficiently to improve the quality of education. This study aims to determine the process of planning, implementation, and evaluation in improving the quality of education using a qualitative descriptive approach. Data was collected by interviews, observation, and study documentation. The research subjects were principal, vice-principal, teachers, and school committee of SMP Negeri 1 Kasihan Bantul. l. The results revealed that program planning is based on the school’s vision, mission, and goals. Work programs were compiled by the school’s component through revising the previous year’s work program, and they were verified by the principal. The substance leads to efforts to improve education quality, but the results are not clearly stated. Furthermore, it was also found that the program implementation is managed by the school’s component by preparing written instructions, such as 2013 Curriculum documents, organizational structure, job description and division of teachers and educational staff, academic regulation, and school rules. Finally, based on the result, it was revealed that program evaluation focuses highly on academic programs rather than the effectiveness and efficiency of learning and teacher performance, implementing the school’s self-evaluation, and school accreditation.
