ABSTRACT
Magnesium alloy designations are based on chemical composition. They consist of two letters representing the two alloying elements specified in the greatest amount, arranged in decreasing percentages or alphabetically if of equal percentage. The letters are followed by the respective percentages rounded off to whole numbers with a serial letter at the end. The serial letter indicates some variation in composition.
