ABSTRACT

At the National Reactor Testing Station a great number of calculations are performed each year by the various contractors to estimate the radiological consequences from operational releases, minor and major incidents, and potential accidental releases. Much of this is repetitious in that each person making the calculation must perform the necessary mathematics to solve the various equations used in calculating dose. To establish more uniform practices in calculations, a computer program was written and estimates of dose were prepared for the isotopes and major organs listed in the International Commission on Radiological Protection reports. This chapter provides information for dose from the ingestion or inhalation of soluble radionuclides. It should be emphasized that these calculations should not be applied to the general population and, further, that derived doses are only approximations.
