ABSTRACT
Manufactured carbon and graphite should not be viewed as single specific materials, but rather as families of materials. Each member of the family is essentially pure carbon, but each varies from the other in such characteristics as orientation of the crystallites, the size and number of pore spaces, grain size, degree of crystallization, and apparent density.
