ABSTRACT

This chapter tabulates experimental and commercial fibers. The filaments are continuous while the whiskers are shorter in length. The aluminum oxide fibers are single crystal sapphire and are flame polished. Boron fiber is produced by chemical vapor deposition on a tungsten wire substrate. Carbon fibers T-25 through T-400 are yarns. Test results on these fibers are made in a strand test and the gauge length is 10 inches. For strength measurements on other filaments, a common length is 1 inch., and they are conducted mostly on single filaments. The silicon carbide coated boron fiber is formed by chemical vapor deposition of boron on tungsten wire. The chapter lists out the properties of experimental and commercial fibers.
