ABSTRACT

The chapter addresses the important issue of stimulus calibration in OAE measurements. In addition to the issue of standards, or lack of standards, there is the issue of the effective level of the stimulus in the smaller ear canal of the newborn. That is, calibration standards are based on adult ears and infants ears differ, primarily in size, from adult ears, thus altering the input signal in the ear canal to an unknown level. Information is presented to make aware students, professional and clinical practitioners of the dimension of various issues related to the measurement of OAEs.
