ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to otoacoustic emissions (OAEs)–low-level sounds that can be measured in the external ear canal and which may be used to objectively evaluate hearing status. The chapter focuses on analysis methods of OAEs, in particular time–frequency (TF) representations of these signals. First, some recent advances in OAE analysis using different TF methods are examined. Then, analysis by the matching pursuit (MP) algorithm is introduced and described in greater detail. Finally, some examples of application of MP are shown for both clinical and basic research.
