ABSTRACT

Central auditory processing (CAP) and its disorders are consolidated as an established field of clinical practice and research. This chapter addresses Central Auditory Processing disorders (CAPD) and their assessment, management, and treatment. An overview of the origins of CAP is described, including the definition and basics concepts related to behavioral manifestations, etiology, auditory mechanisms, and behavioral battery tests. Once the CAPD is detected the auditory intervention and rehabilitation might be applied to minimize the impact of the deficit on communication and learning. In addition, this chapter discusses the treatment approaches and management strategies for children/adolescents/adults with CAPD.
