ABSTRACT

Accessible tourism involves offering free-barrier geological tourism experience for tourists with special needs at geosites. Despite the advancement in the nature and scope of geotourism experiences in the last years, visitors with special needs are usually excluded from different types of geological tourism activities because of different physical and health barriers. Therefore, there is an urgent necessity to mitigate the potential constrains and provide an accessible tourism experience to tourists with special needs in the context of geotourism. As a result, this study aims to clarify the concept of the accessible geotourism and identifies the main constrains for promoting this concept. Moreover, it identifies the implications for such concept in the geotourism context.
