ABSTRACT

A scheduling method using water pumps and reservoirs in the Water Distribution System (WDS) for renewable energy power accommodation is proposed in this article. The Power Distribution System (PDS) and WDS are coupled as an energy–water nexus. The power consumption of water pumps and the water storage of a reservoir are optimized at the same time to reduce the electricity cost and accommodate renewable energy power, considering the constraints from both the PDS and WDS. A case study is carried out in this article, and the results show that the method proposed in this article can significantly improve the renewable energy power accommodation capability of PDS, as well as reduce the electricity cost of WDS in a flexible way.
