ABSTRACT

The paper starts from forming the complete sequence network of a faulted network, from which the positive-, negative-, and zero-sequence networks are deduced by applying superposition and the system equations are obtained. Treating the fault impedances as part of the un-faulted symmetrical network makes the analysis of the shunt faults with fault impedances much simpler and clearer. The method of symmetrical components is the pillar of power system steady-state analysis. The paper presents a more straightforward, rigorous, and efficient explanation of the concepts and derivation of the equations.
