ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the process of producing bottled mineral water, to detect the cause of a production defect, and to propose an improved production design using the Six Sigma method. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with several steps in collecting both primary and secondary data. The result of the research was that in the production process of bottled mineral water, three types of defect emerged that became critical to quality. Based on a Pareto diagram, the most common cause of defects was established, and a cause–effect diagram was employed to determine the cause’s factors. Furthermore, an FMEA analysis was used to look for the source of the defect and to determine which improvement should be prioritized in order to reduce the failure. The company management is expected to implement the improvement design in order to achieve zero defects in the production process.
