ABSTRACT

This paper is a historical review and lessons learned from the Indonesia experience in implementing Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting (GRPB). It is very important for Indonesia since it addresses the strategy towards reducing inequality between men and women in development, at national and district levels. This paper aims to review and share the lessons learned, towards better implementation of GRPB in Indonesia in the future. The methodology used in this paper is a qualitative approach, based on literature review. The results showed that GRPB should be mainstreamed into the existing planning and budgeting process. Sex-disaggregated data and gender statistics are very imminent for conducting gender analysis and understanding gender perspective is the first and the most important aspect in conducting GRPB. Therefore, gender awareness should be conducted regularly. GRPB have successfully narrowed the gender gap in Indonesia’s development, nationally and regionally.
