ABSTRACT
India delivers the world’s largest energy efficiency portfolio and has successfully incentivised large-scale participation by stakeholders across the spectrum, including in sectors as diverse as buildings, manufacturing, residential, and municipal. India’s energy efficiency programmes invite global interest from countries seeking to replicate them. With its population and emerging economic might, India has the potential to not only become a global powerhouse, but also one that is sustainable by design. Marching in momentum with the world’s energy transition and its own sustainable growth aspirations, India is progressively finding opportunities to make energy efficiency a prominent and foremost consideration in the energy consumer’s conscience. Programmes targeted at scaling energy efficiency and percolating its benefits to every strata of society and economy have been especially effective in this regard. India has set milestone after milestone in energy efficiency, earning its hard-won global leadership position.
