ABSTRACT

Throughout the 20th century, architectural design has alternated between the concepts of tradition and innovation. These vacillations have led to the replacement and modification of key reference buildings in European countries such as Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Germany. Of the four main changes witnessed during this time, one is highlighted due to its significant influence on both architecture and in its teaching, then and now. We refer to the change in the middle of the century during a conflict between innovative international style and more traditional and regional composition. It corresponds to a turning point, but at the same time, to the coexistence between innovation and tradition. It is appropriate, at this time, to add more information to previous investigations of this period.
