ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the procedure and technical features of remodeling blood vessels using endovascular balloons, known as balloon angioplasty. The authors begin by describing the design of the catheters and balloons, including the various sizes and lengths of the typical options available to the interventionalist. The authors then describe the technique step-by-step. The chapter continues with a brief discussion of drug-coated balloons, which is a new technology that has been shown to produce superior results for patients. The chapter concludes with a paragraph describing frequently encountered complications and their management.
