ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces safe and effective techniques of vascular access, which is the means by which the body's arteries and veins are approached for diagnostic and/or therapeutic intervention. The authors provide step-by-step descriptions of the techniques and physical locations for typical vascular access. The text is supported by images and figures that frame the discussion. The authors close the chapter with a description of vascular sheaths, which are catheters designed specifically to maintain safe access to blood vessels during a procedure.
