ABSTRACT

I would like to express my appreciation to the Governing Board of the XIV International Grassland Congress, to Dr. Robert Barnes, its President, and especially to Dr. John E. Baylor, Chairman of the Governing Board of the XIV International Grassland Congress, for the kind invitation to speak at this distinguished gathering. I am pleased also to be in the state of Kentucky, a recognized leader in pasture and forage research and practice, a recognition attested to by this Congress. I regret that my own schedule did not allow me to participate in the various scientific and technical sessions. I understand, however, that these have been well attended and of exceptional quality. I strongly encourage your organization to seek every means to intensify the research as well as the developmental aspects of grassland use.
