ABSTRACT

Agricultural imports and exports comprise an important part of Mainland China's foreign trade. At present, China's relatively poor technologies hamper the ability of the industrial sector to produce and export large quantities of manufactured goods. Therefore, the promotion of agricultural trade and development of export-oriented agriculture are not only important objectives of China's agricultural modernization, but also ways to earn more foreign exchange needed to import advanced technologies, equipment, and industrial materials for sustained economic development. Under increasing competition in world agricultural market, China should adjust its trade strategies in accordance with its comparative advantages. This will be a key issue in formulating China's agricultural trade policies.
