ABSTRACT

Sprain is a common problem of horses and cattle. If the sick animals are not cured in time or are improperly treated, the disease may become severe or could become a chronic inflammation. Since 1960, Chinese veterinarians have applied acupuncture to sprains with satisfactory results. This chapter provides a general description of this technique. Filiform needle is generally used at points with well-developed musculature. It is the same as described in "Application of Acupuncture in Treatment of Animal Infertility." Round, sharp needle is similar to filiform needle, but the diameter size is bigger. Wide needle is large, has a spade-shaped tip with a low crest along the midline. Before acupuncture treatment, the animal patient should be diagnosed to determine the site of the sprain and the course of the disease. Hand acupuncture of filiform needle is the same as described in "Application of Acupuncture in Treatment of Animal Infertility.".
