ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses single-pot processing as a viable option for producing pharmaceutical granulations. It covers a discussion on the different steps of a single-pot process, as well as a detailed explanation of the drying methods that can be applied in a single-pot processor, such as vacuum drying, gas-assisted vacuum drying, and microwave drying. It provides guidance on the typical application fields for this technology (expensive products, highly potent materials, organic solvents, effervescent products, and small batches/short campaigns) and highlights some attention points in areas relevant for pharmaceutical production, such as scale-up, regulatory aspects, validation, process analytical technologies, and control systems. The chapter should enable the reader to understand the benefits and limitations of the technology and make informed decisions about the most suitable production method.
