ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the applications of the greener synthesized nanoparticles that have been synthesized in our lab. It focuses on the “greener” synthesis of metal-based nanoparticles, specifically the gold and silver nanoparticles, with their applications. The term sustainable nanotechnology could be broken down into two words: sustainable and nanotechnology. In order for something to be considered sustainable, it must replenish itself without becoming depleted or damaged permanently. Nanoparticles can be divided into two main types: organic and inorganic nanoparticles. Organic nanoparticles include carbon-based nanoparticles and inorganic nanoparticles include the noble metal nanoparticles and the semiconductor nanoparticles. The quantitative metrics, such as lattice constant were examined to compare the properties of the Au nanocubes made by our water-based greener synthesis method and those made by other methods. The chapter concludes with a section on the current commercial synthesis of the nanoparticles.
