ABSTRACT

In soft clay ground, shield tunnels suffer from additional load which is generated due to the consolidation of ground caused by water leakage into the tunnel. Therefore, it is important to make precise predictions of future additional loads when designing tunnel reinforcements. In this paper, the mechanism governing the additional load increase was clarified via three-dimensional FEM analysis. Moreover, a simple method to predict the convergence value of additional loads is proposed, comparing the calculation results of a two-dimensional analysis with the three-dimensional analysis.
