ABSTRACT

This paper presents the experimental results of nucleate pool boiling heat transfer for R141b over a smooth and micro-grooved cylindrical copper surface. The experiments have been conducted at a saturation temperature of 32°C and for heat fluxes ranging from 20 to 150 kW/m2. A copper tube of outside diameter 20 mm and length of 50 mm was used as the test surface. The experimental heat transfer coefficients for pool boiling over smooth cylindrical copper tube have been compared with the empirical correlations and comply within ± 15%. The boiling heat transfer coefficient on the micro-grooved surface was found to be 63.4% to 82.3% higher in comparison to that of plain surface for the wall superheat range from 6 to 8.5 K.
