ABSTRACT

Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs)are in great trend these days because of their miraculous and unique properties which is quite helpful in the medical field. Various methods over the years have been devised to synthesize silver nanoparticles. In this research one such green method is presented i.e. synthesis of Ag NPs using soluble starch. The synthesis was carried out by using different amount of starch-10/1/0.5/0.1/0.05g. For each sample UV-Vis spectroscopy was performed and the results were carried out, which confirmed the formation of Ag NP’s which was used for detection of Mercury ions. Here starch is used as a reducing agent as well as a stabilizing agent. This method is not only fast but it is also easy to perform without any toxic by-products. The peak for all the samples ranged between 415-420 nm. The peak shifts to 296-284 nm on addition of Hg2+ ions.
